PARS Community had the pleasure of welcoming representatives from Merseyside Police and the local council
We were joined by Constable Geoffrey Graham from Merseyside Police’s Community Engagement Team, alongside a female Sergeant from Merseyside Police, as well as Declan Sammin from the council.
The police session covered a wide range of practical and important topics, including scams, exploitation, theft, organised crime, violence, knife-related laws, e-bikes and e-scooters, personal safety, and how to protect ourselves and others.
We also discussed how to recognise emergency and non-emergency situations, when to call 999, when to use 101, how to report suspicious activity, and the importance of checking identification before allowing anyone into your home, even if they claim to be a police officer.
Other topics included organised theft and bag snatching, safety around rivers and waterways, the Ask for Angela initiative, and awareness of harmful online communities, including incel-related risks.
Declan Sammin also delivered an important awareness session about prevention, recognising concerning behaviour, safeguarding vulnerable people, and identifying signs that may be linked to exploitation, radicalisation, extremism, terrorism or other serious security concerns. He also shared useful statistics, explained different groups and risk factors, and highlighted the importance of reporting concerns early.
It was an extremely useful and practical session, giving our staff and volunteers valuable knowledge about how to stay safe, support vulnerable members of the community, recognise risks and respond appropriately.
