A Joyful Sizdah Bedar: Pars Community’s Nature Day Picnic at Crosby Beach

As the Persian New Year festivities draw to a close, the ancient tradition of Sizdah Bedar—Persian Nature Day—invites families and friends to embrace the outdoors, celebrate renewal, and share in the joys of community. On a radiant April day, the Pars Community brought this cherished custom to life with a vibrant picnic at Crosby Beach in Liverpool. With 30–40 members of the community coming together, the event was a heartfelt celebration of nature, culture, and togetherness. Against the stunning backdrop of the beach, the day was filled with laughter, traditional foods, and a lively atmosphere that captured the essence of this beloved Persian holiday.

A Day of Connection and Celebration

Sizdah Bedar, marking the 13th day of Nowruz, is a time for Persians to step into nature, leaving behind the confines of home to revel in the beauty of the outdoors. The Pars Community, known for fostering cultural pride and unity (visit www.parscommunity.co.uk for more), chose Crosby Beach as the perfect setting for this year’s festivities. The sandy shores and open skies provided an ideal canvas for a day packed with activities that brought people of all ages together. From the moment attendees arrived, the air buzzed with excitement, as families set up picnic spreads laden with sandwiches and burgers and also traditional Persian dishes like kabab, sabzi polo, and refreshing fruits and drinks to share.

Dance, Music, and Games Galore

The heart of the event pulsed with energy as music filled the air, setting the stage for spontaneous dance sessions that had everyone moving to Persian rhythms. Community members, young and old, joined in, their smiles reflecting the joy of the moment. Games and sports added to the fun, with friendly competitions sparking laughter and camaraderie. Whether it was a lively round of volleyball or traditional games like Vasati, the activities fostered a sense of playfulness and connection. The fantastic atmosphere was a testament to the Pars Community’s commitment to creating memorable experiences that honor Persian heritage while embracing inclusivity.

A Feast for the Senses

Attendees brought an array of homemade dishes, showcasing the rich flavors of Persian cuisine. From Burgers to savory kebabs and sweet treats, the picnic tables were a vibrant display of culinary tradition.
