On Friday, 15th March, in the heart of London at Artsdepot North Finchley, the Pars Community proudly presented a grand Nowruz festival, a vibrant celebration marking the commencement of the Persian New Year. This day-long extravaganza, unfolding from the early hours of 9 am to the late evening at 10 pm, was a spectacular testament to Persian culture, heritage, and communal joy.
The festival was divided into three major segments, each designed to offer attendees a unique experience of Nowruz traditions and celebrations. The day kicked off with the 5th annual Backgammon competition, a highlight for many, where participants engaged in strategic gameplay, vying for the coveted title, a prestigious certificate, and a cash prize. This traditional game, deeply rooted in Persian culture, not only provided a competitive platform but also fostered camaraderie and connection among the community members.
As the day progressed, the festival transitioned into a bustling Nowruz market and exhibition in the afternoon. This marketplace was a treasure trove of Persian culture, offering handcrafted symbols of Nowruz, traditional decorations, and an array of Persian foods that delighted the senses. The market served as a vibrant hub for exploration and purchase of unique items, each telling its own story of Persian heritage and New Year traditions.
The evening culminated in a spectacular music festival and party, marking the zenith of the celebration. This segment featured an array of performances that had everyone on their feet, dancing and rejoicing in the spirit of Nowruz. The concert and party were a celebration of community and new beginnings, uniting over 1000 attendees in dance, music, and joy.
